Silvan Basset Hounds is located in Cannonsburg, Kentucky. We have been breeding basset hounds for over 20 years. As a hobby (as opposed to commercial) breeder, Silvan Basset Hounds aims to produce healthy, happy, people-loving dogs which conform as closely as possible to the breed standard. We prove this by competing in AKC conformation events at dog shows.
We've produced to date some 25 AKC Champions, and 3 of our basset hounds have attained the R.O.M. (Registry of Merit) for producing multiple titled offspring. We've had dogs make national ranking, and two Silvan Bassets have become therapy dogs.
We breed primarily for the show ring and for companionship. We occasionally have puppies and/or young adults for sale as show prospects and/or companions.
Don't be surprised to find a significant percentage of the bassets at our home to be of advanced age. We keep our older dogs--retired champions or breeding dogs--as the loving companions that they are, for as long as they live.
We are members of the Basset Hound Club of America (BHCA) and the Huntington (West Virginia) Kennel Club. We subscribe to the standards of ethics of the national breed club. We've helped several newcomers to get a start in showing basset hounds. The kennel name "Silvan Basset Hounds" is registered with the American Kennel Club.
Sylvia and Mark Handloser live in Cannonsburg, Kentucky. Sylvia works for a medical center in Ashland, performing radiography and other tests in the Family Care Centers and currently works in the Occupational Medicine facility. Mark has worked in the Radiology Department of the same medical center for 26 years, where he currently does computed tomography (CT) scans, and also has a law enforcement background.
